Mirza Juuliet is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film, directed by Rajesh Ram Singh and produced by Green Apple Media in association with Falansha Media Private Limited and Shemaroo Entertainment. It is a modern era retelling of the Mirza Sahiban folk story from Punjab.
The film is set in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, where Juliet (Piaa Bajpai), the sister of a strongman, is set to marry the son of a local politician. However, when Mirza (Darshan Kumar), a man who has been away from the town for 15 years, returns, Juliet is immediately drawn to him. They soon fall in love, but their relationship is forbidden due to their different social backgrounds and the political tensions in the town.
As their love for each other deepens, Mirza and Juliet must face many challenges, including the disapproval of their families and the threat of violence from Juliet's brother. In the end, their love story comes to a tragic end, but their sacrifice inspires others to fight for their own love and freedom.
Mirza Juuliet was a critical and commercial failure upon its release, but it has since gained a cult following among some viewers. The film is praised for its bold and unconventional take on the classic love story, as well as its strong performances from the lead actors.
